Check Your Yamaha Drive2 Against Every Current Recall

Check a Yamaha Drive2 by year, model code, and serial number, then see the applicable hazard, stop-use guidance, and free dealer remedy.

Chip Delaney

Some Yamaha Drive2 golf carts are recalled, but the answer depends on the model year, exact configuration, serial prefix, and complete serial number. The four 2025–2026 Drive2 campaigns cover different brake, stoplight, and accelerator defects; they do not apply to every Drive2. Enter the cart’s details below, then have Yamaha or an authorized dealer confirm whether any matching repair remains open.

Choose the year and configuration, then enter the prefix and serial digits to screen every relevant campaign.

Yamaha Drive2 Recall Lookup

This screens the published U.S. criteria. A match does not show whether a previous owner completed the repair.

Enter the cart’s identifiers for a result. The tables below remain available as a manual reference. Stop using any cart that matches or may match a stop-use campaign until Yamaha confirms its status.

Used-Cart Inspection Checklist

Yamaha recall support: 866-747-4027 · ygc_callcenter@yamaha-motor.com

Sources: U.S. CPSC recall notices 26-542, 26-028, 26-027, and 25-321; cited reproduction of recall 20-718. Unknown or unpublished complete ranges are shown as requiring Yamaha confirmation.

Safety notice: Stop using a cart that matches—or may match—a recall containing a stop-use instruction. Yamaha or an authorized Yamaha Golf Car dealer must make the final vehicle-specific determination and complete any required repair.

Five Identifiers Determine Whether Your Drive2 Is Recalled

Record the cart’s model year, exact designation, powertrain, serial prefix, and complete serial number. “Drive2” alone is not specific enough.

Terms such as Drive2 Fleet, Drive 2 PTV, DR2A, DR2E, AC-L, and AC-L Li describe different vehicle groups or configurations. Gas, conventional electric, and lithium-ion powertrains can also fall into different recall rows.

Photograph the wording on both side panels and the complete identification label. Transcribe the prefix exactly; a zero is easily mistaken for the letter O. Preserve every leading zero in the numeric portion because the published ranges use them.

The label location varies. Recall 26-542 places it on the frame under the seat. The DR2A/DR2E brake notice describes a label on the handlebars at the left side of the rear row of seats. Other Drive2 labels may be on the engine-bay back wall or near the steering-column support. Follow the applicable recall notice first and contact Yamaha if the label is missing, painted over, or unreadable.

For each cart, record:

  • Model year
  • Complete side-panel or model designation
  • Gas, conventional electric, or lithium-ion powertrain
  • Serial prefix
  • Complete serial number, including leading zeros
  • Previous recall invoices or stickers

Fleet asset numbers do not substitute for Yamaha serial numbers. Record every fleet cart separately, even when the units were purchased together.

Four Recent Campaigns Cover Separate Defects

The current Drive2 campaigns have overlapping model years but distinct identifying criteria and remedies.

Recall Vehicles Screened Hazard Free Remedy
26-542 Named 2021–2022 electric fleet cars Misrouted passenger brake cable Inspect routing; replace cable if needed
26-028 Specified 2021–2025 Drive 2 PTVs Missing stoplights Install two stoplights
26-027 Certain 2017–2024 DR2A/DR2E PTVs Vehicle can fail to brake Replace brake shoes and pads
25-321 Listed 2017–2024 configurations Accelerator may not return to idle Replace return-spring assembly

Completing one repair does not clear another campaign. A stoplight installation does not repair a brake cable, and replacing brake components does not replace the accelerator spring.

Recall 26-542 Covers Three Electric Fleet Groups

Recall 26-542, announced June 11, 2026, covers 8,650 electric fleet cars in these groups:

  • 2021 J0J Drive2 AC-L
  • 2022 J0J Drive2 AC-L
  • 2022 J5B Drive2 AC-L Li

The passenger-side brake cable may have been misrouted during assembly, causing abnormal wear and possible failure. Yamaha received six reports of passenger-side cables breaking and no reported injuries, according to the CPSC notice.

Affected owners must stop using the carts pending inspection and repair. The dealer checks the passenger-side cable routing and replaces the cable if misrouting is found.

The notice does not publish a complete affected serial-number range. A matching year, code, and configuration therefore produces a possible match requiring Yamaha confirmation, not a final serial-based determination. This campaign concerns the named electric fleet configurations rather than every 2021 or 2022 Drive2.

Recall 26-028 Uses Exact Stoplight Serial Ranges

Recall 26-028, announced October 16, 2025, covers about 19,300 specified model-year 2021–2025 Drive 2 Personal Transportation Vehicles that lack stoplights. It includes particular gas and electric combinations, not every cart with one of the listed prefixes.

The cart must match its model year, prefix, complete serial range, and covered PTV description. The lookup includes all 17 published year-and-prefix ranges. For example, a 2023 J0D matches the serial portion only when its remaining digits fall from 0600116 through 0607700, inclusive.

Compare the number only with the row for its actual model year and exact prefix. Do not compare a J0D number with a J0E range or move a number into another year’s row. Leading zeros are part of the comparison.

The free remedy is installation of two stoplights. Owners of affected vehicles are instructed to stop using them pending repair. A serial-range match establishes potential coverage but does not reveal whether a previous owner already had the lights installed under the recall.

Recall 26-027 Requires A DR2A Or DR2E Match

Recall 26-027, also announced October 16, 2025, covers about 4,300 certain model-year 2017–2024 DR2A and DR2E PTVs associated with prefixes J0D, J0E, or J2D.

The vehicle can fail to brake. Affected owners must stop using it until an authorized dealer replaces the brake shoes and brake pads at no charge.

The official notice gives the qualifying designations and prefixes but not complete serial ranges. A 2017–2024 cart with one of those prefixes is therefore not automatically recalled. It must also have the DR2A or DR2E designation, and Yamaha must confirm vehicle-specific eligibility.

This is separate from the fleet brake-cable campaign:

  • 26-542: inspect passenger-side brake-cable routing and replace the cable if misrouted.
  • 26-027: replace the brake shoes and brake pads.

Paperwork saying only “brakes serviced” is insufficient. Ask which recall number was performed and which parts were inspected or replaced.

Recall 25-321 Expanded The Accelerator-Spring Repair

Recall 25-321, announced June 5, 2025, covers many listed 2017–2024 Drive2 gas and electric configurations. The accelerator-pedal spring can fail to return the vehicle to idle after the pedal is released.

Yamaha reported at least 2,200 accelerator-pedal return-spring failures and no injuries. The remedy is replacement of the accelerator-pedal return-spring assembly, and affected owners are instructed to stop using their carts pending repair.

The official table includes Drive2 Fleet, QuieTech, QuieTech PTV, Powertech AC PTV, AC, EFI, lithium-ion, and other specified variants. Across those rows, prefixes include J0A, J0B, J0C, J0D, J0E, J0J, J0K, J0S, J5A, J5B, and J5C.

A prefix alone proves nothing. Coverage requires an exact match among the model year, named configuration, prefix, and serial range in the applicable official row. The same prefix can appear in several configurations with different ranges.

An earlier accelerator repair also does not automatically satisfy recall 25-321. The expanded campaign requires a new replacement accelerator-pedal return-spring assembly, including on affected carts repaired under an earlier accelerator-related recall. Ask Yamaha whether the expanded remedy—not merely an earlier spring repair—is recorded as complete.

Some 2020 Carts Also Need A Front-Hub Check

Recall 20-718 was a separate campaign involving front wheel hubs that could crack and allow a front wheel to detach. A third-party reproduction of the CPSC information lists these model-year 2020 groups:

Variant Prefix Included Serial Digits
Drive2 QuieTech J0B 305606–306597
Drive2 AC J0J 301002–301100
Drive2 EFI J0K 103401–104680
Drive2 DC J0C 303701–304600

The reproduction reports no incidents or injuries and says owners were instructed to stop use and arrange a free repair. Because the available cited page is not the primary notice, verify the range and repair status through Yamaha or current CPSC records before relying on it.

All four criteria must match: model year 2020, exact variant, prefix, and serial range. A 2020 J0J is not enough by itself; it must be a Drive2 AC with serial digits from 301002 through 301100.

A Match Does Not Show Whether The Repair Is Open

Classify each campaign separately after screening the cart.

Confirmed Identifier Match

Use this result when every criterion published in the applicable notice matches, including the exact year, configuration, prefix, and complete serial range.

That establishes potential recall coverage. It does not establish that the repair remains outstanding. Continue following the stop-use instruction until Yamaha or a dealer confirms completion.

Possible Match Requiring Yamaha Confirmation

Use this result when the year, designation, and prefix fit but the notice does not publish enough serial information for a final comparison. Recalls 26-542 and 26-027 commonly produce this result.

The same classification applies when the label is unreadable, the body designation conflicts with the identification label, or previous repair paperwork does not name the campaign and remedy.

No Match Found In These Records

This means only that the entered identifiers did not match the campaigns screened here. It is not proof that no recall exists. A newer campaign, amended range, identification error, non-U.S. campaign, or unrecorded configuration could change the result.

Yamaha Must Confirm Coverage And Completion

Contact Yamaha recall support at 866-747-4027 or ygc_callcenter@yamaha-motor.com, or contact an authorized Yamaha Golf Car dealer. The cited notices describe the applicable recall inspections and repairs as free. Transportation, mobile service, or coordinated on-site fleet work may be available when the cart cannot be brought to a dealer.

Send the model year, complete designation, powertrain, prefix, full serial number, label photographs, and previous repair records. Ask two separate questions:

  1. Is this complete serial number covered by each named campaign?
  2. Does Yamaha’s record show that every required remedy has been completed?

For a used-cart purchase, obtain this confirmation before paying. A recent service invoice, normal-feeling brake pedal, installed spring, or clean-looking cart does not prove that a recall remedy was completed. Keep campaign-specific invoices with the cart’s permanent records.

Common Drive2 Recall Questions

Are All 2017–2024 Yamaha Drive2 Carts Recalled?

No. Recall 25-321 covers many listed configurations, while recall 26-027 covers certain DR2A and DR2E vehicles. Each cart must match the applicable year, configuration, prefix, and any published serial range.

Can One Drive2 Match More Than One Recall?

Yes. Model years overlap, and the campaigns address unrelated defects. Check the brake cable, stoplights, brake components, accelerator spring, and the limited 2020 front-hub campaign independently.

Are The Recall Repairs Free?

The cited notices describe the applicable inspections and repairs as free. Ask Yamaha or the authorized dealer whether transportation, mobile service, or on-site fleet work is available.

Does A Previous Recall Repair Clear The Cart?

Only for the specific campaign and remedy documented as complete. Recall 25-321 may require a new spring assembly even when an earlier accelerator-related repair was performed.
